Stanford men’s basketball enters the 2025–26 season with optimism, even after the departure of standout center Maxime Raynaud. A key contributor over the past three seasons, Raynaud’s presence in the paint and leadership on and off the court will certainly be missed. However, the Cardinal have taken significant steps to ensure they remain competitive in the upcoming campaign.
Head coach Kyle Smith, entering his second year at the helm, has focused on player development and defensive intensity—hallmarks of his coaching philosophy. With a solid returning core and a strong incoming recruiting class, Stanford is expected to maintain a balanced and disciplined approach.
Sophomore guard Kanaan Carlyle, who showed flashes of brilliance last season, is poised to take on a larger role, while veterans like Brandon Angel and Andrej Stojakovic provide experience and scoring depth. The addition of a few key transfers also brings athleticism and versatility to the roster, helping offset the loss of Raynaud in the frontcourt.
While replacing a player of Raynaud’s caliber is no easy task, Stanford’s depth, improved chemistry, and structured system put them in a strong position to contend in the Pac-12 and beyond. The 2025–26 season may mark a new era, but expectations remain high on The
Farm.
