In a landmark achievement for Nebraska women’s basketball, senior center Alexis Markowski has been named the 2025 Sporting News National Player of the Year. This prestigious honor recognizes her outstanding performance throughout the season and cements her legacy as one of the program’s all-time greats.
Markowski’s journey from Lincoln Pius X High School standout to national acclaim has been marked by consistent excellence. During the 2024–25 season, she led the Cornhuskers with averages of 16.8 points and 8.1 rebounds per game, earning first-team All-Big Ten honors from the conference media.
Her collegiate career is decorated with accolades, including being a three-time nominee for the Lisa Leslie Award and a three-time Naismith Trophy candidate. Markowski also made history as the first Husker women’s basketball player to earn four first- or second-team all-conference honors.
Beyond her on-court achievements, Markowski is known for her leadership and commitment to community service, volunteering at the Matt Talbot soup kitchen in Lincoln.
