Nebraska’s Alexis Markowski has made history by being named the Sporting News National Player of the Year for the 2024–25 women’s college basketball season. This prestigious recognition underscores her exceptional performance and leadership on the court.
A Season of Dominance
Markowski, a 6’3″ center from Lincoln, Nebraska, delivered a standout season, averaging 16.8 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. Her scoring prowess was highlighted by a remarkable 35-point, 15-rebound game against Oregon, followed by a 30-point, 8-rebound performance at Northwestern. Over the final seven games of the regular season, she averaged 24.0 points and 9.8 rebounds, leading the Huskers to a 19-10 overall record and a 10-8 mark in Big Ten play.
Career Milestones
Throughout her career, Markowski has achieved significant milestones, including surpassing 1,700 points and 1,100 rebounds, joining an elite group of Nebraska players. She became just the second player in Husker history to reach these combined career totals, joining All-American Jordan Hooper.
