Under head coach Tom Osborne, Davis became Nebraska’s first 1,000-yard rusher in 1973 and left as the school’s all-time leading rusher . His performance in bowl games was legendary:
1974 Cotton Bowl Classic: Davis rushed 28 times for 106 yards and a touchdown, leading Nebraska to a 19-3 victory over Texas .
1974 Sugar Bowl: Trailing Florida 10-0 late in the third quarter, Davis sparked a comeback with 11 carries for 110 yards in the final 20 minutes, earning Most Outstanding Player honors as Nebraska won 13-10 .
