Coveted DB Chauncey Kennon ‘Always Felt Highly About Miami’
Four-star defensive back Chauncey Kennon has emerged as one of the most sought-after recruits in the 2025 class, drawing offers from top programs across the country. Yet despite the national attention, the California native says Miami has always held a special place in his heart.
“I’ve always felt highly about Miami,” Kennon said in a recent interview. “From the culture to the energy, there’s just something different about The U.”
Kennon, a standout at Junipero Serra High School in Gardena, has been making waves on the recruiting circuit with his elite athleticism, ball-hawking instincts, and physical style of play. At 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, he brings size, speed, and versatility to the secondary—able to cover receivers on the outside or drop down into the box and make plays in run support.
Miami’s coaching staff, led by head coach Mario Cristobal and defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae, has made Kennon a top priority. Their consistent communication and vision for his role in the Hurricanes’ defense have resonated deeply with him.
“Coach Addae has been real with me since day one,” Kennon said. “He breaks down how I’d fit in their scheme and sees me as a leader in the secondary. That means a lot.”
Kennon took an unofficial visit to Coral Gables earlier this year, and sources close to his recruitment say the experience left a lasting impression. From touring the facilities to meeting with academic advisors and spending time with current players, the visit gave Kennon a firsthand look at life as a Hurricane.
“Being down there, it just felt like home,” he said. “The environment, the tradition, the brotherhood—it’s all real.”
While he’s yet to announce a commitment, Kennon has hinted that Miami is firmly in his top group, alongside programs like USC, Oregon, and Georgia. He plans to take official visits this summer and make a final decision before the start of his senior season.
For Miami, landing a player of Kennon’s caliber would be a major win on the recruiting trail and a statement that the Hurricanes are serious about building a dominant defense. As the race for his signature intensifies, one thing is clear: Miami has made a lasting impact on Chauncey Kennon—and that could pay dividends in the months ahead.
