Mississippi State EcoCAR Team Shines in National Electric Vehicle Competition
Mississippi State University’s EcoCAR team has once again demonstrated engineering excellence by earning multiple first-place awards and a top-10 finish in the national EcoCAR EV Challenge. The competition, held across Yuma, Arizona, and San Diego, California, brings together some of the brightest collegiate minds in the U.S. to tackle real-world challenges in electric vehicle innovation and sustainable automotive technology.
The EcoCAR EV Challenge is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, General Motors, and MathWorks, and it encourages students to design and implement advanced EV technologies focused on performance, efficiency, and environmental impact. MSU’s team, composed of students from multiple disciplines including engineering, business, and communications, stood out for their holistic and innovative approach.
The Bulldogs earned top honors in several categories, including Controls Development, Communications, and System Modeling, showcasing their expertise not only in hardware and software but also in outreach and strategy. Their performance placed them 7th overall nationally, an impressive result given the fierce competition from engineering powerhouses across the country.
“This achievement reflects the dedication and cross-disciplinary collaboration of our team,” said Dr. Matt Doude, faculty advisor for MSU EcoCAR. “They are not only solving today’s transportation problems but preparing to lead the automotive industry of tomorrow.”
The success of the EcoCAR team aligns with Mississippi State’s growing reputation as a leader in automotive research and development, particularly in the fields of autonomous systems and sustainable energy.
With one year remaining in the four-year EcoCAR EV Challenge cycle, MSU is well-positioned to build on this momentum and aim even higher in next year’s final competition. For now, the Bulldog engineers are celebrating a season of hard work, innovation, and national recognition.
