TOTTENHAM PLAYER IS IMPRESSED WITH THE SHEER SPEED OF TEAMMATE

Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven has lauded Timo Werner after playing against the latest Spurs signing in Germany.

Tottenham were able to include two new signings in Sunday’s squad to face Manchester United.

Defender Radu Dragusin was named on the bench whilst forward Timo Werner was thrown straight into the starting lineup on the left flank.

Ange Postecoglou will have been very relieved to have both of his new signings available given that so many players are currently unavailable.

Dragusin came off the bench to help Spurs see out the game whilst Werner blew hot and cold but had one telling moment, finding Rodrigo Bentancur for Tottenham’s second leveller in a 2-2 draw.

Werner had moments and flashes of quality, using his pace to fashion opportunities in the final third.

The end product was a little wayward from Werner, including one first-half strike which went way, way over the crossbar.

Werner did set up Tottenham’s leveller though and he can be pleased with his impact having barely started for parent club RB Leipzig this season.

Spurs will hope to see more from Werner moving forward and one man who seems excited by his arrival is defender Micky van de Ven.

The Spurs centre back played against Werner in the Bundesliga, lining up in the Wolfsburg defence to try and deny Werner’s Leipzig.

Now teammates at Tottenham, Van de Ven told Sky Sports (14/01, 6:40pm) that he is well aware of just how much pace Werner provides.

Van de Ven highlighted their previous battles in Germany but now thinks that Werner can become an important player for Tottenham having bagged an assist on his debut.

More News:  Tottenham faces a transfer nightmare, with Dragusin's move being hijacked and another deal Postecoglou wants on shaky ice.

“Yeah, he’s got a lot of pace,” said Van de Ven. “I played against him already with Leipzig so I knew already that he’s got a lot of pace but yeah, he can be an important player for us and I think he showed today, already with an assist, that he can be really important for us,” he added.

Tottenham need Werner to keep chipping in given that captain Son Heung-min is away at the Asian Cup.

Werner and Tottenham aren’t in action for over a week now, giving Werner some time to settle in and get himself ready to make a real impact between now and the summer.

Spurs can sign Werner permanently in the summer and the German must now kick on and show that Tottenham need to keep him for the long term.
