The award, presented by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), recognizes Izzo’s exceptional leadership during a season where the Spartans clinched the Big Ten regular-season title with a 26–5 overall record and a 17–3 conference mark .
This accolade adds to Izzo’s illustrious career, which includes surpassing Bob Knight’s record to become the winningest coach in Big Ten history with his 354th conference victory . At 70, Izzo also became the oldest recipient of the Big Ten Coach of the Year award, earning it for the fourth time .
