Michigan State men’s basketball has secured a commitment from Miami transfer guard Divine Ugochukwu, adding depth to their backcourt for the upcoming season. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound sophomore from Sugar Land, Texas, announced his decision on Sunday, choosing the Spartans over other suitors including Texas Tech and USC .

Ugochukwu, who played his freshman season at Miami, averaged 5.3 points, 2.3 assists, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game, while shooting 48.3% from the field . He started 17 of 28 games and logged over 20 minutes per contest, showcasing his potential as a reliable contributor .

At Michigan State, Ugochukwu is expected to provide valuable minutes off the bench, supporting the backcourt alongside Samford transfer Trey Fort and returning sophomore Jeremy Fears Jr. His addition comes as the Spartans look to reinforce their roster following several departures, including guards Tre Holloman and Jase Richardson .

With multiple years of eligibility remaining, Ugochukwu will have the opportunity to develop under head coach Tom Izzo’s guidance, aiming to make a significant impact in the Big Ten Conference.
