Matthew Daum Recommended for Appointment as Dean of Michigan State University’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and Associate Provost
Michigan State University (MSU) has announced the recommendation of Dr. Matthew Daum for appointment as the next dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) and associate provost. The recommendation follows an extensive national search and reflects Daum’s exceptional leadership experience, academic background, and longstanding commitment to advancing agricultural education and research.
Dr. Daum currently serves as the director of MSU’s School of Packaging, where he has led efforts to modernize curriculum, strengthen industry partnerships, and promote interdisciplinary research. Under his leadership, the school has seen significant growth in enrollment, research funding, and industry engagement. His innovative approach and collaborative leadership style have been widely recognized both within the university and across the packaging industry.
With a Ph.D. in packaging from MSU and over two decades of leadership experience in both academia and the private sector, Dr. Daum brings a unique blend of academic and practical knowledge to the role. His vision for the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources includes expanding research opportunities, promoting sustainable practices, and enhancing outreach and engagement across Michigan and beyond.
In his dual role as associate provost, Dr. Daum will support university-wide academic initiatives, focusing on strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation in teaching and learning, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Pending final approval by the MSU Board of Trustees, Dr. Daum’s appointment is expected to begin later this year. His leadership is anticipated to further elevate MSU’s status as a national and global leader in agricultural and natural resources education, research, and extension.
