Urban Meyer has weighed in on whether or not Michigan’s 2023 college football national championship should be vacated.
The former Ohio State Buckeyes head coach went 7-0 against Michigan. He led the Buckeyes program from 2012-18. Ryan Day took over for Meyer in 2019 and has lost four straight games to the Wolverines, despite winning a national title this past season.
Michigan has been embroiled in controversy, due to the Connor Stalions sign-stealing scandal, and the Wolverines announced this week that head coach Sherrone Moore was being suspended for two games in 2025.
But should Michigan’s 2023 national championship be vacated? Meyer weighed in
Meyer does not believe that Michigan’s 2023 national championship should be vacated.
However, he does believe that anyone who lies to the NCAA should be banned from the sport.
“Yeah, I’ve been blown up all morning about that,” Meyer said on “The Triple Option” podcast. “I say pump the brakes. Don’t even go there. When you start seeing about coaches that can’t coach, you know, you went through this, and you see the word show-cause, show-cause, in my understanding, means you can’t coach. If someone wants to hire you, you’re not allowed to coach. So, obviously there’s some stuff there, but once again I defer until everything comes out, and I hope it does. I hope everything comes out. And so at some point you can move past this because this is like a black cloud that’s been hanging for a while.”
