Maple Leafs “Sign” Avalanche Duo MacKinnon and Makar in $66.9M Fantasy Deal—Fans Wake Up Moments Later

In what might go down as the greatest dream trade in sports history, the Toronto Maple Leafs have “agreed” to a blockbuster $66.9 million fantasy contract with Colorado Avalanche stars Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar… in the imagination of Leafs fans everywhere.

According to TotallyRealSportsBuzz.ca, the deal was reportedly negotiated on Xbox Live late last night and solidified in NHL 24 franchise mode. The duo, known for terrorizing defenses in Colorado, now “join” Auston Matthews in what fans are calling “The Cold North Super Team.”

Unfortunately, the euphoria was short-lived as fans quickly realized it was April—wait, May—and the trade existed only in the minds of desperate hockey hopefuls. A spokesperson from the Avalanche offered a dry chuckle and a reminder: “Cale and Nate aren’t going anywhere.”

Still, Toronto faithful held out hope. “Until I see MacKinnon wearing blue and white in real life, I’m not giving up,” said one fan, clutching his signed Dion Phaneuf jersey and gently sobbing.

Meanwhile, Makar was reportedly confused. “I thought this was a Fortnite update,” he said when asked about the rumors.
