Luke Sorensen Commits to Nebraska: Cites Matt Rhule, Culture as Key Reasons in Family-Fueled Decision
The Nebraska Cornhuskers added another promising piece to their 2026 recruiting class on June 20, 2025, as three-star tight end Luke Sorensen officially committed to the program. The 6’4”, 245-pound standout from Servite High School in Anaheim, California, made the announcement surrounded by family, and it was quickly met with enthusiasm from fans, coaches, and teammates.
Ranked the No. 19 tight end nationally, Sorensen chose Nebraska over serious interest from Ole Miss and Penn State. But in the end, the California native felt drawn to something deeper in Lincoln.
“Nebraska’s just a different place,” Sorensen told On3. “The culture there is unbeatable, and Coach Rhule is going to do big things.”
Those words reflect more than a simple recruitment pitch—they illustrate a growing belief among high school prospects that Matt Rhule is building something special in Lincoln. Sorensen becomes the sixth commitment in the Cornhuskers’ 2026 class, and his addition offers size, strength, and versatility to Nebraska’s future offensive plans.
Sorensen credited Rhule’s vision and the overall unity of the team as major reasons behind his decision.
“There’s a real brotherhood there,” Sorensen added. “You can feel it when you’re on campus. It’s not just words—they live it every day. I know I’m going to be developed not just as a football player, but as a man.”
That sentiment aligns with Rhule’s recruiting approach, which emphasizes character, development, and long-term vision. Sorensen’s commitment also reflects Nebraska’s increasing reach into talent-rich states like California, and he becomes a foundational piece in what’s shaping up to be a strong class.
Another factor that helped seal the deal: offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen. Known for his innovative offensive mind, Holgorsen made it clear how Sorensen would be used in Nebraska’s system—not only as a traditional tight end, but also flexed out as a hybrid weapon.
“Coach Holgorsen showed me the film. He sees me doing a little of everything—blocking, catching, creating mismatches. It’s exciting,” Sorensen said.
He also noted his growing relationship with fellow 2026 Nebraska commit, quarterback Dayton Raiola, as a key piece in building early chemistry. The two bonded during visits and in group chats, and Sorensen is excited about the prospect of being one of Raiola’s go-to targets.
“We’re building something. Dayton and I are already talking about getting on campus early and getting to work,” Sorensen said.
Indeed, Sorensen plans to enroll early in January 2026, a move that will allow him to take part in spring practice and accelerate his development.
Following the announcement, Sorensen’s family and coaches celebrated the commitment with a series of heartfelt posts on Instagram. Many emphasized how proud they were of Luke’s journey and praised Nebraska for being a perfect fit—on and off the field.
With his size, talent, and mindset, Sorensen brings major upside to Lincoln. But perhaps more importantly, his commitment is another sign that Matt Rhule’s vision is resonating. Nebraska is starting to look like a destination again—and recruits like Luke Sorensen are ready to be part of the climb.
