Los Angeles, CA — Netflix Announces Groundbreaking Docuseries “Voice of College Softball,” Honoring Legendary Oklahoma Coach Patty Gasso
In a momentous move for sports storytelling, Netflix has officially greenlit a multi-episode documentary series titled Voice of College Softball, a powerful and deeply personal tribute to Patty Gasso — the most decorated coach in NCAA softball history. Slated for release in spring 2026, the series promises to chart the meteoric rise of the Oklahoma Sooners dynasty under Gasso’s leadership, offering unprecedented access to the woman who redefined the sport and inspired generations of athletes.
Produced by Gamechanger Studios in collaboration with ESPN Films, the six-part docuseries will chronicle Gasso’s journey from a modest coaching start at Long Beach City College to building one of the most dominant softball programs in collegiate history at the University of Oklahoma. Over her three-decade career, Gasso has led the Sooners to seven national championships, mentored four NCAA Players of the Year, and cultivated a legacy of mental toughness, discipline, and belief.
“This isn’t just a softball story,” said executive producer Ava Michaels. “This is about leadership, legacy, faith, and what it means to lift young women to their highest potential, on and off the field. Patty Gasso is more than a coach — she’s a movement.”
The documentary promises never-before-seen footage from locker rooms, practice sessions, and dugouts during Oklahoma’s historic championship runs. Viewers will hear first-hand interviews with former players, including Jocelyn Alo, Keilani Ricketts, and Lauren Chamberlain, as well as rival coaches, sports journalists, and even some of Gasso’s toughest critics.
“Coach Gasso changed the trajectory of my life,” said Alo, NCAA’s all-time home run leader, in a teaser clip. “She didn’t just coach me — she challenged me to be the fiercest version of myself.”
The title Voice of College Softball refers both to Gasso’s influence and to her relentless advocacy for the sport’s visibility and growth. From championing national TV coverage to pushing for improved facilities and funding, Gasso’s impact reaches far beyond the diamond.
The series also dives into the personal struggles behind her success: the early doubts as a young coach, the pressure of sustaining excellence, and her constant balancing act between faith, family, and fierce competitiveness.
Netflix’s VP of Sports Content, Daniel Rivers, called the project “a landmark moment for women’s sports media.”
“Coach Gasso’s story is overdue for the spotlight. We’re proud to be the platform that brings her remarkable journey to a global audience.”
With a cinematic blend of storytelling, archival game footage, and raw emotional depth, Voice of College Softball is poised to become not just a sports documentary — but a cultural event. Early buzz suggests it could do for softball what The Last Dance did for basketball: inspire, elevate, and immortalize.
Voice of College Softball premieres globally on Netflix in March 2026, just ahead of the NCAA softball season.
