Tennessee football has a unique advantage on the recruiting trail for the 2027 class.
Four-star line backer Cooper Witten, who ranks inside the top 75 prospects in the cycle, is the son of Vols legendary tight end Jason Witten.
Cooper Witten is the No. 63 player in the class and No. 14 player out of Texas. He plays for Liberty Christian School in Argyle, Texas, under his father who serves as head coach.
Michigan, Oregon, Texas Tech, Kansas State, Auburn, Arkansas, Memphis and USC in January.
LSU entered the running in late February and Nebraska, Ohio State and Notre Dame got in in March. The Buckeyes and Irish were confirmed to get visits.
Most recently, Arizona State got into the mix. The Sun Devils offered Cooper Witten on May 6.
This off-season, he has been running track. He posted a time of 10.91 seconds in the 100-meter dash in April to mark his career-best.
As the off-season progresses, he picked up an invite to the All-American Bowl. This comes after landing an invite to the UA Next Camp Series.
While he is being recruited as a linebacker, he is a two-way star at Liberty Christian School.
As a sophomore, he posted 45 tackles, five interceptions, two pick-sixes, six pass break-ups, a sack and a safety as a defensive back. This earned him First-Team All-State honors for the position.
On offense, he notched seven receiving touchdowns. He also contributed a blocked punt and returned a kick for a touchdown.
This play helped his team go 12-1 and earn a state championship. He appeared in eight games.
So far, most rumors have Texas A&M trending as the team to beat in his recruitment. He hasn’t made an official comment on who sits at the top of the list or when a commitment timeline would be made, though
