MINNEAPOLIS, MN – A legal battle is brewing in Minnesota, as the state’s Attorney General, Keith Ellison, is facing a lawsuit for upholding a policy that allows transgender athletes to participate in girls’ sports. The lawsuit, reportedly filed by a Texas-based nonprofit called Female Athletes United, alongside three anonymous high school softball players, alleges that Minnesota’s policy violates Title IX, the federal law prohibiting sex-based discrimination in education programs that receive federal funding. The plaintiffs contend that allowing “biological males” who identify as female to compete in girls’ sports creates an unfair playing field and displaces opportunities for female athletes.
