Knox Kiffin, the son of Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin, is going to be one of the top quarterbacks in the college football recruiting Class of 2028. He did his best impression of Nick Saban while on a visit to Alabama with his father.
It was a full-circle moment for a family that spent three formative years in Tuscaloosa!
Knox Kiffin will begin his sophomore year of high school this fall. The 6-foot-2, 170-pound (ish) signal-caller recently moved south from Los Angeles to play at Oxford High School in Mississippi. Although he is still a few years away from committing, he already received an offer from eight college football programs. Sacramento State, Murray State, FIU, East Carolina, Arkansas State, Georgia State, Western Kentucky, and SMU are in the mix. Alabama might be next.Lane Kiffin returned to his old stomping grounds on Saturday. He watched his son work alongside Ty Simpson at the Crimson Tide’s High School Camp. It was not the first time he threw a football at the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields. It was his first time doing so with a specific goal in mind — an offer
Lane served as the offensive coordinator for Nick Saban in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Their relationship was testy at times but it is marked by mutual respect. The former frequently credits the latter with “saving his career” after a frustrating departure from USC. They are still very close to this day
Not only did the greatest college football coach of all-time change Lane’s life, he is often described as something of a “godparent” or “grandfather” figure to his children— in a very loose sense. Knox, Landry and even Presley spent a lot of time around Nick Saban as kids. He treats them like family.
Thus, it was very funny to see Knox Kiffin step up to the podium at Alabama to do his best impression of his dad’s former employer. Lane had to cut the part where his son cracked a joke about Tennessee and/or Coca-Cola but the fake press conference still hits
These next few months will be crucial for Knox. He possesses the frame, arm talent and athleticism of an elite quarterback recruit. Taking the time to get acclimated at Oxford is going to be important in terms of success this fall. The Chargers are a legit state title contender!
