Lane Kiffin mocks Miami’s reported $4.3 million Carson Beck NIL deal

Lane Kiffin couldn’t hold back when asked about quarterback Carson Beck’s reported $4.3 million NIL deal with the Miami Hurricanes.

“Miami gave him $4.3 million? Did they watch his game against us?” Kiffin said with a laugh on “The Pivot” podcast with former Miami Dolphin Channing Crowder and Ryan Clark. “I was trying not to go there. You set me up.”

Crowder said the most he earned in his NFL career was $6 million a year.

Beck struggled in Georgia’s 28-10 loss against Ole Miss last season, completing just 20-of-31 passes for 186 yards and an interception.

Beck’s deal with Miami apparently has reset the market, reportedly playing a role in Nico lamaleava’s attempt to renegotiate his deal with Tennessee, which refused to give in to the demands and forced the embattled quarterback to enter the transfer portal.

Hurricanes coach Mario Cristobal also said Miami would balk at such requests.

“We’re not going to do that at Miami, and I say that without any hesitation,” Cristobal said. “If anyone’s thinking that — and they could be the best player in the world — if they want to play hold out, they might as well play get out. We don’t want to do that, and we don’t want Miami to become that. Too many guys have sweat and bled and laid it on the line on that field to ever become that kind of program.”

Entering the 2024 season, Beck appeared to be a certain first-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft before a midseason stretch where he threw 12 interceptions in six games before getting hurt in the SEC title game in December.

Beck, who transferred to Miami after two seasons as Georgia’s starting quarterback, spent spring practice at UM rehabbing his surgically repaired elbow and has yet to throw a pass.

Beck was a standout at Georgia, especially in 2023, which was his first season as a starter, throwing for 3,941 yards with 24 touchdowns and six interceptions. He struggled at times last season, notching 3,485 yards with 28 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Beck has a 24-3 career record as a starter.

Beck — arguably the Hurricanes’ most important player in 2025 — is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Cam Ward, a fellow one-year transfer in looking to improve his NFL draft stock in Miami. Ward is expected to be the No. 1 pick in this week’s NFL draft.
