Lamar Wilkerson picks Indiana over Kentucky
The Sam Houston State transfer guard has ended up at Indiana and not choosing Kentucky among other schools.
In a big pickup for new Indiana head coach Darian DeVries, former Sam Houston State guard Lamar Wilkerson has announced his commitment to the Hoosiers, picking them over the Kentucky Wildcats.
The 6-foot-5 junior from Ashdown, Arkansas, brings elite scoring and veteran experience to a roster looking for a fresh start in Bloomington.
Wilkerson is coming off a breakout season with the Bearkats, where he averaged 20.5 points per game while shooting an impressive 47.7% from the field and an eye-popping 44.5% from 3-point range. His ability to create his own shot and score at all three levels made him one of the most coveted mid-major transfers in the portal this offseason.
In addition to his scoring, Wilkerson averaged 4.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.1 steals per game — showing he can contribute on both ends of the floor.
His commitment gives Coach DeVries a proven go-to scorer as he begins his first season at the helm of the Indiana program. DeVries, who arrived from Drake, is tasked with rebuilding a storied Hoosiers team that has struggled to find consistent success in recent years. Wilkerson is expected to play a key role both on the court and in the locker room, bringing leadership and toughness to a team looking to return to national relevance.
With his scoring ability, experience, and versatility, Wilkerson could be a difference-maker for Indiana in the 2024-25 season. For DeVries, it’s a strong statement that top-tier talent believes in the vision he’s bringing to Bloomington.
As for Kentucky, the search for more backcourt help rolls on.
