PROVO, Utah — BYU head football coach Kalani Sitake has reaffirmed his commitment to the Cougars by signing a long-term contract extension, solidifying his role as the leader of the program well into the future.
Sitake, who has been BYU’s head coach since 2016, has overseen one of the most successful stretches in recent program history. He guided the Cougars through their transition from independence to membership in the Big 12 Conference and recently led them to a 10-2 regular season and a tie for the top spot in the Big 12 standings with a 7-2 conference record.
“Kalani builds strong connections with our football student-athletes that help them grow and develop as players on the field, and, more importantly, he helps strengthen our men for their lives after football,” said BYU Athletic Director Tom Holmoe. “Kalani’s signing signals his loyalty to a program he has poured much of his life into as a young fan, a player, and our head coach.”
Sitake has compiled a 71-43 overall record and has delivered three double-digit win seasons in the past five years. Known for his “love and learning” culture, he has created an environment that fosters both athletic achievement and personal growth.
“I remain humbled to be the head coach at this great university and believe in its mission,” Sitake said. “I love the outstanding young men, coaches, and staff we have in our program, and I’m excited about the opportunities we have ahead competing in the Big 12 Conference.”
With this extension, BYU sends a strong message about its commitment to continuity and success in the Big 12 under Sitake’s leadership.
