Just like last year, Nebraska volleyball has options at its hitting positions. Here’s a closer view:

As Nebraska volleyball heads into another promising season, one thing remains clear: the Huskers are once again loaded with options at the hitting positions. Building on last year’s depth and talent, Nebraska enters 2025 with a wealth of experience, athleticism, and new firepower across its front line.

At the outside hitter spot, the Huskers return a formidable group. All-American Harper Murray continues to lead the way after a standout freshman season where she showcased incredible power, court awareness, and defensive prowess. Murray’s consistency and ability to terminate rallies make her a cornerstone of the lineup. Flanking her are veteran hitters like Lindsay Krause and Ally Batenhorst, who bring size, leadership, and a reliable arm to the rotation. Both have grown into more complete players, capable of attacking from both pins and passing at a high level.

Adding to the depth, Bekka Allick, traditionally a middle blocker, has shown flashes of versatility that could allow Nebraska even more flexibility with their offensive schemes. Freshman phenom Stella Adeyemi also enters the fold, bringing raw athleticism and a high ceiling, and could push for time on the outside if her game adapts quickly to the collegiate level.

At opposite hitter, Nebraska boasts similar depth. Junior Merritt Beason, who transferred from Florida and became a key weapon last season, continues to provide the Huskers with a big, physical presence on the right side. Beason’s heavy arm and ability to block effectively make her a key two-way threat. If necessary, Krause and even incoming freshmen could slide into this role, showing how Nebraska’s staff has multiple ways to keep their attack unpredictable and fresh.

The middle blocker position, while not a traditional “hitting” spot in every system, remains another source of offense for Nebraska. Allick’s dominance at the net, paired with the rapid development of Andi Jackson, gives the Huskers a potent one-two punch. Both middles excel not only in attacking quick sets but also in closing blocks — a vital component of Nebraska’s defensive identity. Look for freshman middles like Olivia Mauch to compete for court time, pushing the upperclassmen and maintaining the high level of competition John Cook expects.

What truly separates Nebraska from other top programs is the versatility of its hitters. Many can play multiple front-row positions, and several — like Murray and Krause — are six-rotation players who excel in serve receive and defense. This flexibility gives Cook and his coaching staff the ability to adjust to matchups, tweak lineups mid-match, and withstand the inevitable grind of a long season.

As the Huskers chase another Big Ten title and another deep NCAA Tournament run, their depth at the hitting positions could be the deciding factor. Just like last year, Nebraska isn’t just deep — they’re loaded with proven stars, rising talents, and elite competitors. The competition for starting spots will be fierce, but that’s exactly how the Huskers like it. Iron sharpens iron — and Nebraska volleyball once again looks poised for greatness.
