Jon Scheyer Opens Up About Raising Twins: “Double the Chaos, Double the Joy”
Duke men’s basketball head coach Jon Scheyer has never shied away from high-pressure moments — whether as a player hitting clutch shots or now guiding one of college basketball’s most storied programs. But in a recent interview, Scheyer admitted that nothing compares to the challenge — and joy — of raising twins.
Scheyer and his wife, Marcelle, welcomed twin daughters in early 2023, joining their older daughter to make a lively household of five. While the Duke head coach is used to managing a roster of talented young men, he joked that juggling diapers, bottles, and toddler tantrums might be even tougher than drawing up a last-second play.
“Let’s just say I’ve learned more about multitasking in the last year than I ever did on the court,” Scheyer laughed. “It’s nonstop — but also incredibly rewarding.”
The Scheyer household is reportedly full of love and laughter, despite the inevitable chaos. Scheyer said that watching the twins grow and bond has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of his life. He credits his wife for keeping things running smoothly during the demanding basketball season.
“There are days I come home exhausted, but then I see those little faces and it all fades away,” Scheyer shared. “They don’t care if we won or lost — they just want Dad to be home.”
Scheyer also noted that being a father of twins has taught him deeper levels of patience and perspective, which he carries into the locker room.
As Duke fans watch Scheyer grow into his role as head coach, it’s clear that his journey off the court — especially as a father of twins — is shaping him into not only a better coach but a more grounded and compassionate leader.
