Jon Scheyer Opens Up About Life as a Father of Twins: “It’s the Best Kind of Chaos”
Duke men’s basketball head coach Jon Scheyer is known for his calm sideline demeanor and strategic mind. But at home, things are a little more hectic — in the best way possible. Scheyer and his wife, Marcelle Provencial, recently welcomed twin daughters into their family, and the coach is embracing this new chapter with a mixture of awe, exhaustion, and joy.
“It’s the best kind of chaos,” Scheyer joked in a recent interview. “You think you’ve planned for everything, but nothing really prepares you for twins.”
The couple already had one child, a daughter, before the twins arrived, making them a family of five. Juggling the intense schedule of a Division I head coach with the sleepless nights and diaper changes that come with newborns hasn’t been easy, but Scheyer says he wouldn’t trade it for anything.
“Honestly, I’ve gained a new level of appreciation for all parents,” he said. “Marcelle is a superhero. She’s handling it all with so much grace.”
Despite his demanding career, Scheyer prioritizes family time whenever possible. Whether it’s squeezing in early morning feedings before practice or catching nap time moments between game prep, the coach is finding ways to stay involved.
Scheyer also shared that fatherhood has made him a better leader. “It’s helped me understand patience, empathy, and how to support people in different ways. It’s definitely impacted how I coach and connect with my players.”
As Duke eyes another strong season under Scheyer’s leadership, fans are seeing more than just a coach. They’re watching a man who’s growing both on the court and at home — and showing that success in both arenas is possible.
