JJ Finch has been in the midst of a long recruiting run. The Indianapolis defensive lineman was at Tennessee this weekend and left impressed by Rocky Top.
“Really the coaching staff and really all the staff members is what stood out,” Finch said of his weekend.
He is recruited by Tennessee defensive line coach Rodney Garner. When he speaks with him and coach Heupel the sales pitch is simple.“They talk about my versatility on the defensive line and how they would be able to use me in the future on Rocky Top,” Finch said.
Finch said he learned that downtown was really nice which was something new he was able to see on this trip. So where does Tennessee stand leaving the weekend?“They are up there,” Finch said. “They are on top. It’s real.”
So what puts them out in front?
“Really the high powered offense and being able to play with a great quarterback like Faizon in the future,” Finch said. “And then the defense. They are always aggressive with coach Banks.”
He was able to hang out with Tim Banks and enjoyed those interactions.
“He’s calm, cool and collected,” Finch said. “He is energy and he is going to get after it.”
At the end of the day, it’s the relationship with defensive line coach Rodney Garner that stands out
Really just the aggressiveness,” Finch said. “Just knowing it’s all from heart and love. If I get the message from him and I’m able to perform, it’s what it is.”
He will announce his decision when he returns home from his Miami official visit next Sunday. He knows what he is looking for as a decision looms.
“Family atmosphere and will I have the opportunity to play first year,” Finch said.
