Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is deeply disappointed following the news of Chip Kelly’s departure after just one season with the Buckeyes. Kelly, who helped guide Ohio State to a national championship, is leaving his role as offensive coordinator to take the same position with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Under Kelly’s leadership, Ohio State’s offense thrived, averaging 35.7 points per game, ranking 14th out of 134 teams nationwide. Smith, one of the biggest beneficiaries of Kelly’s system, tallied 76 receptions for 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns in an incredible freshman campaign. Given his success under Kelly’s play-calling, it’s understandable that Smith was disheartened by the news. He expressed his emotions on X (formerly Twitter) with a simple but telling reaction:
“Nooooo💔”
Kelly excelled at creating favorable matchupsfor Smith, designing plays to maximize his impact on the field. His departure marks the end of a successful partnershipthat helped elevate Smith’s game and Ohio State’s offense as a whole.
This move marks Kelly’s return to the NFL, adding to his previous professional coaching experience with the Philadelphia Eagles (2013-2015) and San Francisco 49ers (2016). While Ohio State will need to find a new offensive coordinator, whoever steps into the role will inherit a dynamic talent in Smith, who stood out even among the Buckeyes’ deep roster of playmakers.
