Jenna Burdette’s Big Moment: Acting Head Coach for Lady Vols in Heart-Stopping Defeat

Lady Vols Fall Short in Texas: Jenna Burdette Steps Up as Acting Head Coach

Jenna Burdette took on the role of acting head coach for the Tennessee Lady Vols during their narrow 80-76 loss to No. 7 Texas at the Moody Center in Austin on Thursday. The defeat dropped Tennessee to 15-4 overall and 3-4 in the SEC, while Texas improved to 19-2 and 5-1 in conference play.

The Lady Vols faced a challenging game without their head coach, Kim Caldwell, who was absent due to the birth of her son, Conor Scott Caldwell. Tennessee made the announcement prior to the game, revealing that Caldwell, who is in her first season as the head coach, was away from the team. Caldwell and her husband, Justin, welcomed their new baby boy, and the family is reportedly doing well.

In Caldwell’s absence, Jenna Burdette, who is in her fourth season with Tennessee as an assistant coach, stepped in as the acting head coach. Burdette, who has worked closely with Caldwell throughout her tenure, led the Lady Vols as they battled against a tough Texas squad. Despite the loss, Burdette’s leadership was a significant moment in her career, as she guided the team through a highly competitive matchup on the road.

Under Burdette’s direction, the Lady Vols fought hard to stay competitive throughout the game, but the Longhorns ultimately prevailed. This game marks another chapter in the dynamic season for Tennessee, one that includes overcoming obstacles both on and off the court. The absence of their head coach added an extra layer of difficulty to an already challenging SEC schedule, yet the Lady Vols showcased their resilience.
