Jared McCain Shines at NBA Combine, Boosting Draft Stock
Former Duke guard Jared McCain made headlines with a standout performance at the 2024 NBA Combine, significantly improving his draft stock and drawing attention from several NBA teams. Known for his deadly shooting and high basketball IQ, McCain showcased his all-around game during drills, scrimmages, and interviews, proving he’s ready for the next level.
McCain, who declared for the NBA Draft after his freshman season at Duke, averaged 14.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game during the 2023–24 college season. His shooting percentages were elite—especially from beyond the arc, where he hit nearly 41% of his three-point attempts. That elite spacing ability has been in high demand among NBA teams, and his combine performance only reinforced his value.
At the combine, McCain impressed scouts with his smooth shooting mechanics, quick release, and consistency during shooting drills. But it was his poise in five-on-five scrimmages that turned the most heads. He displayed excellent decision-making, moved well without the ball, and held his own defensively against some of the top guard prospects in the class.
Analysts noted his high energy, leadership qualities, and ability to adapt to different roles—qualities that often translate well to the NBA game. “He looks like someone who could play rotational minutes immediately,” said one scout. “He’s not flashy, but he’s effective, smart, and tough.”
McCain also earned praise during interviews for his charisma, maturity, and understanding of the game—attributes teams value in younger prospects. While he entered the combine as a late first-round or early second-round projection, his stock is now rising quickly, with some experts placing him in the mid-to-late first round.
With the draft approaching, Jared McCain has positioned himself as one of the most intriguing and NBA-ready guards in the class.
