On Instagram, Brooklynn Miles shared many photos of herself wearing a Pitt jersey and posing side by side with head coach Tory Verdi to declare her allegiance to the university.
Miles played in 32 games, starting 27 of them, and averaging 29.8 minutes during her last season at Kentucky. In each game, she pulled down 2.9 rebounds, caused 1.2 steals, scored 5.8 points, and provided a team-high 3.0 assists. She also made 61.1% of her shots from the foul line and 38.8% from the field.
Her first two college basketball seasons were spent with SEC
rival Tennessee, averaged 1.8 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 56 games without a single start. She is still eligible for one more year.
A change in coaching earlier this month caused Miles to leave Kentucky. After winning just 24 games in her final two seasons as head coach of Kentucky, Kyra Elzy was fired from the program. Elzy’s first two seasons saw Kentucky qualify for the NCAA Tournament.
Kenny Brooks, who played well at the same position at Virginia Tech for the previous eight seasons, including a Final Four appearance in 2023, was selected by the Wildcats to replace her. Nine Wildcats have left the program this offseason, including Miles, who left after Brooks was hired.
She is Pitt’s second transfer this year.offseason, in addition to MaKayla Elmore, a forward for Clemson who also departed because of a coaching change.
Following the conclusion of the previous season, a number of players used the transfer portal, prompting Pitt head coach Tory Verdi to attempt to expand his team. Pitt tied for last place in the ACC with an overall record of 8-24 and a 2-16 record.
