It’s Official: Netflix, ESPN, and Guinness Team Up for Cael Sanderson Documentary—A Tribute to Wrestling’s GOAT
In a historic partnership, Netflix, ESPN, and Guinness World Records have announced a groundbreaking documentary chronicling the life and legacy of wrestling legend Cael Norman Sanderson—widely regarded as the greatest college wrestler and coach in history.
Set for release in early 2026, the film will spotlight Sanderson’s unmatched collegiate dominance, where he compiled a perfect 159–0 record over four years at Iowa State, a feat that earned him Olympic gold in 2004 and a permanent place in sports immortality. The documentary will also explore his transformational impact at Penn State, where he’s led the Nittany Lions to multiple NCAA team titles and built a dynasty that has redefined the sport.
“This is a story about excellence, obsession, and legacy,” Netflix said in a joint statement. “No one has done what Cael Sanderson has done—not just on the mat, but in how he’s built young men into champions.”
Guinness World Records will formally recognize Sanderson for multiple historical feats, including longest winning streak in collegiate wrestling history and most NCAA team titles by a coach in a 15-year span.
ESPN, which will co-produce the project, promises never-before-seen footage, exclusive interviews with wrestling icons, and an emotional look at Sanderson’s quiet yet intense approach to greatness.
Fans can expect an inspiring and gritty retelling of a man whose perfection was never arrogance, but relentless purpose. From the silence of wrestling rooms to the roar of NCAA arenas, Cael Sanderson’s story is finally being told—on the biggest stage possible.
