Indiana softball collapses in season-ending loss to Oklahoma State

Indiana University’s softball team faced a devastating end to their 2025 season with a 16-8 loss to Oklahoma State at the NCAA Fayetteville Regional. Despite an early lead, the Hoosiers’ pitching staff faltered, allowing 12 runs in a disastrous third inning that proved insurmountable.

Early Promise Fades Quickly

The Hoosiers began the game with strong offensive momentum. Senior outfielder Taylor Minnick ignited the scoring with a two-run homer in the first inning, followed by a solo shot in the third, giving Indiana a 3-2 lead. Redshirt junior Melina Wilkison added a three-run blast in the fourth, extending the lead to 6-2. However, the game took a turn in the third inning.

The Third Inning Collapse

Oklahoma State’s offense exploded in the third, scoring 12 runs on 10 hits, including back-to-back home runs. The Hoosiers cycled through their entire pitching staff, with three different pitchers unable to halt the Cowgirls’ momentum. Freshman Jenae Berry eventually secured three outs to end the inning, but the damage was done.

A Brief Glimmer of Hope

In the fourth inning, Indiana’s offense rallied, scoring six runs to narrow the deficit to 14-8. However, Oklahoma State responded with two more runs in the sixth, securing a 16-8 run-rule victory.

Season Overview and Future Outlook

The loss concluded Indiana’s season with a 34-20 record. This marks the third consecutive year the Hoosiers have exited the NCAA Tournament in the regional round. Despite the early exit, the season featured notable achievements. Minnick set a program record with 45 career home runs and 204 RBIs, while senior pitcher Brianna Copeland broke the career home run record with her 41st.
