In a remarkable and historic moment for college sports broadcasting, Chuck Barrett — the iconic voice of Arkansas Razorbacks football — has been honored with dual ESPN Awards for Excellence in Sports Broadcasting, a rare and prestigious achievement that has captivated fans and peers alike.
Barrett, who has been the play-by-play announcer for the Razorbacks since 2007, was celebrated at the ESPN Sports Broadcasting Honors held in Los Angeles. The ceremony included a stirring tribute showcasing Barrett’s most memorable calls, from game-winning touchdowns to heartfelt moments that have defined Razorback sports over the past nearly two decades.
“Chuck Barrett is more than just a broadcaster; he is the heartbeat of Razorback Nation,” said ESPN President Norby Williamson. “These dual awards highlight his exceptional talent, dedication, and the genuine connection he has fostered with fans across Arkansas and beyond.”
Barrett received the Lifetime Achievement in College Broadcasting Award alongside the Golden Voice Award for Inspirational Sports Coverage, marking an unprecedented moment in ESPN’s history of honoring sports media legends.
The NCAA praised Barrett’s accomplishments, with Commissioner Charlie Baker calling the honors “a testament to the power of authentic storytelling in college athletics.” Additionally, plans were announced for the Chuck Barrett College Broadcast Fellowship, designed to support and mentor aspiring sports broadcasters.
As the Razorbacks prepare for the 2025 season, fans nationwide are rallying behind Barrett, whose signature enthusiasm and clear play-by-play voice continue to bring every game to life.
In Barrett’s own words from a recent broadcast:
