In a momentous celebration of athletic excellence, Pat White, the iconic dual-threat quarterback from Daphne, Alabama, is set to be inducted into the Mobile Sports Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place, at the Mitchell Center on the campus of the University of South Alabama .
A Trailblazing Career
Pat White’s football journey is nothing short of legendary. At West Virginia University (WVU), he became the first college quarterback to start and win four consecutive bowl games from 2005 to 2008, leading the Mountaineers to victories in the Sugar, Gator, Fiesta, and Meineke Car Care Bowls . White set 19 WVU, Big East, and national records during his collegiate career, including finishing as the all-time rushing quarterback in NCAA history with 4,480 yards—a record he held at the time.
His dynamic playing style earned him multiple accolades, including two-time Big East Offensive Player of the Year honors. White’s versatility and leadership on the field solidified his legacy as one of college football’s most electrifying players.
Beyond College: Professional Pursuits
After his stellar college career, White was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He also had stints with the Washington Redskins, the United Football League’s Virginia Destroyers, and the Canadian Football League’s Edmonton Eskimos . In addition to football, White pursued professional baseball, being drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in 2008 and the New York Yankees in 2009.
Coaching and Mentorship
Transitioning from player to coach, White has made significant contributions to developing young talent. He served as quarterbacks coach at Alcorn State, where he guided back-to-back SWAC Offensive Players of the Year, and later coached running backs at the University of South Florida in 2020 . Most recently, he has been part of the Los Angeles Chargers’ coaching staff, bringing his wealth of experience to the NFL sidelines.
