Saints get news on Derek Carr comeback after retirement announcement.
The NFL world was shocked on Saturday when Derek Carr announced his retirement after 11 seasons as a quarterback in the league.
His departure from the game was due in large part to a serious injury to his throwing shoulder that likely would’ve kept him out for the entire 2025 season.Carr’s move has created a bit of wondering, though, as to whether he’d ever consider coming back. He’s 34, and QBs have been playing longer and longer.
Pro Football Talk insider Mike Florio clarified Carr’s comeback status.
It’s “extremely unlikely” that Carr will make a comeback, Florio wrote Tuesday, adding that Carr is “already making other professional plans.”If Carr were to ever return to the NFL, the Saints would likely release his rights, so he’d have a chance to sign for a desired team if a connection like that was ever made.
Given that Carr is already making new plans, it seems like he’s probably content with his decision.
Restlessness can always follow retirement, so maybe this changes.
For now, though, it sounds like the NFL has seen the last of Carr as a quarterback
