The NBA draft is still two months away but several teams are already grinning at the prospect of getting Duke star Cooper Flagg.
While the Blue Devils got eliminated in the Final Four, Flagg proved in the entire NCAA Tournament that he’s more than ready to make the leap to the big league.
However, rumors have continued to circulate that the 19-year-old forward might return for his sophomore season at Duke, citing his unwillingness to be drafted by a bottom-feeding squad in the NBAThe Utah Jazz are picking No. 1 overall, followed by the Washington Wizards, Charlotte Hornets, New Orleans Pelicans and Philadelphia 76ers.Amid the whispers, former NBA star Lou Williams issued a stern reminder for Flagg, who has yet to declare for the draft.
“I got news for you, Cooper Flagg, whatever team you’re ducking, they’re gonna be there next year too,” said the three-time Sixth Man of the Year on FanDuel TV’s “Run it Back.””They’re not gonna be great, so whoever you don’t wanna play for right now, they’re still gonna be in a whirlwind of the Cooper Flagg sweepstakes.”
With his advanced game for his age, Flagg is expected to make an immediate impact on whichever team selects him.
With the Jazz, he’ll join the upstart core of Lauri Markkanen, John Collins, Walker Kessler and Keyonte George. He’ll also have fellow Duke product Kyle Filipowski alongside him.
Williams also refuted the bold claim of ESPN analyst and former Blue Devils star Jay Williams that Flagg is going to be the face of the NBA.
