“I Am the Richest” Bears’ defensive star responds to $40 million news

The Chicago Bears’ busy offseason highlights a franchise that hopes to break its four-year playoff drought. Decorated former offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is the new head coach in the Windy City, giving hope that quarterback Caleb Williams will develop into a star over these few seasons.

General manager Ryan Poles has primarily focused his offseason efforts on rebuilding the offensive line and giving Williams more outside weapons to work with. This prioritization of the offense makes sense, as the Bears’ defense held up well last season in spite of the offensive struggles. In a recent interview with Bears Wire reporter Alyssa Barbieri, Gordon discussed this deal with the franchise and how it will motivate him going forward.

“I wouldn’t necessarily say it was a goal of mine,” Gordon said. “At the end of the day, I just want to be the best at my position, period. I guess I didn’t have a number or a price on myself. I wanted to work hard to be the hardest nickel at my position and the best at it. That’s what I accomplished, and I feel like I still got more out there that I want to show.”

Poles still has his work cut out for him going into the NFL Draft. The Bears still could use another pass rusher and added depth at the wide receiver and running back positions. However, this extension of Gordon shows that the organization has done its due diligence in evaluating players currently on the roster.

For the first time in years, the Bears seem due for a breakout season, even in a vaunted NFC North division
