The Houston Texans have bolstered their receiving corps and special teams by signing wide receiver Braxton Berrios to a one-year, $2 million contract. Berrios, 29, brings six seasons of NFL experience, having previously played for the New England Patriots, New York Jets, and Miami Dolphins.
Last season, Berrios appeared in six games with the Dolphins, primarily contributing as a return specialist. He averaged 25.3 yards per kickoff return, bringing his career average to 24.8 yards with one touchdown. He also averaged 14.7 yards per punt return during the 2024 season.
In 2021, Berrios earned All-Pro honors as a kick returner with the Jets, showcasing his dynamic playmaking abilities. He recorded a career-high 46 receptions for 431 yards and two touchdowns that year. However, his 2024 season was cut short due to a torn ACL sustained in October, limiting him to four targets without a reception.
Berrios’ addition is timely for the Texans, who are navigating the absence of wide receiver Tank Dell for the 2025 season. His experience and special teams prowess are expected to provide immediate value. Furthermore, Berrios’ connection to social media influencer Alix Earle, known for her significant online following, may enhance the team’s visibility and fan engagement.
The Texans have been active in enhancing their passing attack this offseason. In addition to acquiring Berrios, they recently traded for veteran wide receiver Christian Kirk from the Jacksonville Jaguars, aiming to strengthen their receiving options.
Berrios’ familiarity with Texans General Manager Nick Caserio and Offensive Coordinator Nick Caley, both of whom he worked with during their tenure with the New England Patriots, is expected to facilitate a smooth transition into Houston’s offensive system.
As Berrios continues his recovery from the ACL injury, the Texans anticipate his contributions to both the offense and special teams in the upcoming season.
