Hunter Ensley: The Vols’ Veteran Outfielder Ready to Lead Tennessee into 2025 Season

2025 Tennessee Baseball Preview: Hunter Ensley

As Tennessee gears up for the 2025 baseball season, the team will kick off its campaign on February 14 against Hofstra at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The Vols will host Hofstra for a three-game series, marking the start of another exciting season for the program.

Among the key players returning to the roster is Hunter Ensley, a redshirt senior outfielder who will be entering his fifth season at Tennessee in 2025.

Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 196 pounds, Ensley has proven to be a consistent and reliable presence in the Vols’ lineup over the years. Last season, in 2024, he played a pivotal role for Tennessee, appearing in 68 games, starting 60 of them. His experience and leadership will be crucial as the Vols look to defend their impressive achievements from the previous year.

In 2024, Ensley put together an outstanding season at the plate. He finished with a solid .296 batting average, showcasing his ability to make consistent contact.

His power was evident with a .532 slugging percentage, and he displayed a strong eye for the strike zone, finishing with a .390 on-base percentage. Ensley’s offensive contributions included 12 home runs, 48 RBIs, 45 runs scored, and 64 hits.

His 15 doubles were another highlight, along with 27 walks, 48 strikeouts, and four stolen bases, indicating his all-around offensive skills.

While Ensley was a major offensive force, his discipline on the field was equally notable. He grounded into five double plays, was hit by pitches seven times, and added a sacrifice fly to his stat line.

His approach to the game balanced both power and patience, making him a key asset to the Tennessee offense.

Defensively, Ensley demonstrated his reliability as an outfielder. He recorded 126 putouts and three assists, showcasing his ability to cover ground in the field.

Though he committed two errors, his .985 fielding percentage reflects his solid defensive performance and his importance as a dependable outfield presence.

Tennessee enters the 2025 season following a historic 2024 campaign. The Vols claimed the College World Series title, captured the SEC Tournament championship, and dominated the SEC regular season, earning the prestigious conference title.

With Ensley and other talented players returning, Tennessee is poised for another successful season, as they look to defend their championships and continue building on their legacy of excellence in college baseball.

Ensley’s leadership and contributions on both sides of the ball will be key in helping Tennessee maintain its status as one of the premier programs in the country as they pursue further success in 2025.
