How Clemson star basketball player Ian Schieffelin could help the football team

Clemson basketball star Ian Schieffelin has been dominating the court with his physicality, hustle, and rebounding prowess—but could his next big move be on the football field?

Head football coach Dabo Swinney has joked about recruiting the 6-foot-8, 240-pound forward, playfully suggesting he could be a force as a tight end or defensive end. With his frame, toughness, and high motor, Schieffelin has drawn comparisons to athletes like former NFL standout Jimmy Graham, who also transitioned from basketball to football.

The idea isn’t as far-fetched as it sounds. Schieffelin played football in high school at Grayson High in Georgia and even attended one of Swinney’s football camps. His aggressive rebounding and physical presence on the basketball court mirror the skills that make for a dominant gridiron player.

While Schieffelin remains focused on basketball, where he leads the nation in rebounds per game and has earned national recognition, fans can’t help but fantasize about what he could do on the football field. For now, it’s just a fun “what if” scenario—but with an athlete like Schieffelin, anything is possible.
