Heartfelt Harmony: Netflix to Premiere Special Documentary Honoring Georgia Bulldogs Marching Band — “Between the Hedges: The Sound of Glory” Set to Debut August 30
Athens, GA — June 26, 2025
In an unprecedented celebration of rhythm, resilience, and Bulldog pride, Netflix has announced the premiere of its newest original sports documentary, “Between the Hedges: The Sound of Glory,” honoring the Georgia Bulldogs Marching Band. The powerful and emotional film is set to debut globally on August 30, 2025, just in time for college football season kickoff.
The documentary dives deep into the heart and soul of the Redcoat Marching Band, one of the most iconic and tradition-rich ensembles in collegiate sports. Known for its explosive halftime shows, infectious game-day energy, and decades of musical excellence, the Redcoats are finally stepping into the national spotlight — not with instruments, but with their story.
Directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Jalen Carver (“Gridiron Echoes,” “March to Madness”), the documentary chronicles the 2024–2025 season from the first summer rehearsal to the final home game in Sanford Stadium. It captures not only the precision and passion of the performances, but also the untold stories behind the scenes — the early mornings, late-night practices, emotional setbacks, and lifelong friendships that define life in the band.
“This isn’t just about music,” Carver said during Netflix’s press event. “It’s about identity, tradition, and the heartbeat of a university. These students aren’t just entertainers — they’re warriors of sound, fueling every play, every chant, and every memory inside Sanford Stadium.”
At the center of the film is band director Dr. Tracey Whitmore, a beloved figure on campus who has led the Redcoats with fierce pride and quiet strength for over a decade. Viewers get an intimate look at her leadership philosophy, her deep bond with students, and her relentless commitment to upholding the standards of one of the SEC’s most storied programs.
The film also follows individual members, including drum major Malik Roberts, a first-generation college student from Augusta balancing honors courses and marching commitments; flutist Emma Lin, a senior coping with a family illness while chasing her dream of performing in the Rose Parade; and snare drummer Lucas Rivera, whose journey with the Redcoats helped him overcome anxiety and find his voice.
Netflix’s production team was granted full access to band camps, practices, locker rooms, and game-day rituals, capturing behind-the-scenes moments never before seen by the public. The film features stirring halftime performances, exclusive interviews with Georgia football legends, and commentary from current and former Redcoats, alumni, and fans.
UGA Athletic Director Josh Brooks praised the documentary as a long-overdue tribute.
“The Redcoat Band is the pulse of our stadium,” Brooks said. “When people think Georgia Football, they think of that first booming note, that ‘Glory, Glory,’ and the drumline that shakes the stands. This documentary honors what they bring to our tradition and our future.”
“Between the Hedges: The Sound of Glory” will be available on Netflix worldwide on August 30, and is expected to draw a massive audience of Bulldog faithful, music lovers, and sports fans alike
