The arrival of Ben Johnson seems as the Chicago Bears’ head coach has breathed new life into the rivalry with the Green Bay Packers.
When Johnson was first introduced as the Bears’ head coach, he wasted little time in taking a dig at Packers’ head coach Matt LaFleur. During his opening remarks to reporters, Johnson expressed his joy in beating the Packers while he was the Detroit Lions’ offensive coordinator. Of course, over the last two seasons, the Lions swept the Packers during the regular season. While Johnson’s dig at LaFleur was perceived as him catering to his new team and fanbase, it seems to have struck a nerve with his Packers counterpart. While joining The Pat McAfee Show on Friday, still bothered by Johnson’s comments, LaFleur seemingly took a jab at the Bears’ head coach.
“Chicago has done a nice job of adding to their roster, and you get a good football coach, as he said himself, in Ben Johnson,” LaFleur told the show.
Rather than praise Johnson directly, LaFleur mentioned that the Bears’ head coach heaped the praise upon himself. While walking back those comments, and saying that he doesn’t know Hohnson, LaFleur had a noticeable tension when talking about the Bears’ head coach
Ben Johnson continues to live rent free in Matt LaFleur’s head.
If you ask us, LaFleur seems annoyed with the attention that Johnson and the Bears have been getting this offseason. To be fair to the Packers, this isn’t the first time that the Bears have been deemed offseason champions. It was just last season that the Bears were the talk of the NFC North with the arrivals of Caleb Williams, Keenan Allen, Rome Odunze, and D’Andre Swift. Of course, that resulted in the Bears having a double-digit losing streak while finishing in last place in the division
