The University of Alabama’s cheerleading squad has achieved a significant milestone by winning the 2025 UCA Division IA Co-Ed National Championship. This victory marks their seventh national title and the first co-ed championship since 2015. The Crimson Tide secured the top spot with a final round score of 94.8, narrowly surpassing the University of South Florida’s 94.6 .
The championship event took place at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida, drawing top collegiate teams from across the nation. Alabama’s performance was lauded for its exceptional stunting, tumbling, and crowd-leading abilities. Jennifer Thrasher, the UA Director of Spirit Programs, praised the team’s dedication, stating, “It’s gratifying to see these athletes work so hard to represent their university in a positive way and then have the reward of winning a championship!” .
In addition to the co-ed team’s success, Alabama’s All-Girl Division IA squad achieved a runner-up finish with a score of 90.9. The university’s spirit squads also advanced to the championship rounds in various other categories, including Mascot, Game Day Dance, and Jazz, securing top-ten finishes in each .
While some social media posts have referred to Alabama’s cheerleading squad as the “world’s best,” it’s important to note that this designation is not officially recognized by ESPN. The team’s recent national championship, however, underscores their excellence and prominence in collegiate cheerleading.
