When Florida landed the commitment of Izayia Williams in March, we said it was an excellent pickup for the Gators. The top 100 overall linebacker had been linked to Florida for a while, but he had also committed to three schools before announcing he would come to Gainesville.
So it isn’t that surprising that Williams is flipping again after just 57 days and claims he is on his way to an SEC rival.Izayia Williams flips in less than two months
When Williams committed back on March 6, we said:
“Coming off his junior season, it appears all the national services are catching up on Williams as 247 has him the lowest at 158th overall while On3 has bumped him to 12th.
On film, everything we said about his sophomore season continued to track in his junior year. He has the potential to be a day one game changer once he learns the nuances of the college game.”
Williams had previously verbally commited to Louisville, Syracuse, and FSU before doing the thing with the graphics to announce he would be a Gator.
We also noted at the time that
“While Williams does have official visits lined up with FSU, Colorado, Alabama, and Georgia, Wiltfong has dropped a prediction that Williams is going to land with the Gators.
This is obviously subject to change depending on how the 2025 season plays out and how his summer visits go.”
We didn’t even make it to the summer visits, and Williams has already flipped again.
He announced today that he has verbally committed to Ole Miss, the 5th school he has now committed to.
Even Baby Gronk is looking over at Williams and saying “You good?”
Williams was in Oxford last weekend, so it’s not like this flip came out of nowhere. It is also emblematic of the new era of college football, where verbal commitments are fun, but they aren’t binding, and players are liable to flip at a moment’s notice
