Georgia football greats earn place on 2026 College Football Hall of Fame ballot
Two guys that certainly deserve the honor!
Georgia football has been enshrined in the NFF College Football Hall of Fame since 1954, when Bob McWhorter and Frank Sinkwich were both inducted after amazing careers with the Bulldogs. Georgia has had a total of 19 players inducted into the Hall of Fame since that time and has the opportunity to add to that number this next year.
The National Football Foundation has released its 2026 ballot for the NFF College Football Hall of Fame, and two Bulldogs were included on that list. Both running back Garrison Hearst and defensive tackle Richard Seymour could be given one of the top honors in college football history.
Hearst and Seymour can join the ranks of other prestigious Bulldogs to receive the honor, such as David Pollack, Champ Bailey, Fran Tarkenton, and others.
Garrison Hearst and Richard Seymour both had great careers at Georgia
Garrison Hearst played at Georgia for three years from 1990 to 1992 before heading to the NFL. In his three seasons with Georgia, by far his best was his final season in 1992 when the star running back ran for 1,547 yards and 19 touchdowns, averaging an astounding 6.8 yards per carry. He also added 324 receiving yards to his stat line and hauled in two touchdowns from the air. Hearst led the SEC in rushing yards, yards per carry, rushing touchdowns, and total touchdowns that season.
Hearst finished his career at Georgia with a total of 3,232 yards and 33 rushing touchdowns. He was drafted third overall in the 1993 NFL Draft by the Phoenix Cardinals. He spent 12 years in the NFL, but unfortunately was unable to play for two seasons due to an injury.
Richard Seymour played at Georgia for four seasons from 1997 to 2000 before making his way to the NFL as well. Seymour was an absolute nightmare on the field for opposing offenses as he finished his career with 223 total tackles, 106 solo tackles, 9.5 sacks, 25.5 tackles for a loss, adn 35 quarterback pressures.
Seymour was drafted by the New England Patriots sixth overall in the 2001 NFL Draft. He spent 12 years in the NFL as well and was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2022.
