Gamecocks Earn Gold and Silver Medals at FIBA Women’s AmeriCup
The South Carolina Gamecocks continue to make their mark on the international stage as two of their standout players returned from the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup with prestigious honors—one claiming gold and the other silver. Representing their respective countries, these current and former Gamecocks proved once again that South Carolina’s women’s basketball program produces elite talent capable of performing under pressure on the world stage.
Rising sophomore guard Milaysia Fulwiley played a key role in Team USA’s gold-medal run. Known for her dazzling speed and creative playmaking, Fulwiley brought energy off the bench and made timely contributions on both ends of the floor. Her ability to control the tempo and deliver in clutch moments helped Team USA fend off tough competition from Canada and Brazil en route to the championship.
Meanwhile, fellow Gamecock Kamilla Cardoso, a dominant force in the post, helped lead Brazil to a strong showing that culminated in a silver medal. Cardoso was a consistent interior presence throughout the tournament, using her size, footwork, and shot-blocking ability to anchor Brazil’s defense. On offense, she delivered double-digit scoring performances and commanded attention in the paint, often drawing double teams.
The dual medal haul is a testament to South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley’s global influence and the program’s growing reputation as a pipeline for international success. It also highlights the Gamecocks’ ongoing legacy of excellence, as their athletes continue to impact the game far beyond NCAA competition.
With the college season on the horizon, both Fulwiley and Cardoso will return to Columbia with valuable international experience—and hardware to match. Their performances in the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup are not just personal triumphs, but another proud chapter in the Gamecock basketba
ll story.
