Future BYU runner Jane Hedengren has once again etched her name into the record books by setting a new U.S. high school girls’ mile record. Competing at the Hoka Festival of Miles in St. Louis on June 5, 2025, the Timpview High School senior clocked an astonishing 4:23.50, surpassing the previous outdoor mile record of 4:28.46 set by Sadie Engelhardt in 2024 by nearly five seconds. This performance also established new North American and U.S. under-20 records.
Hedengren led the race from start to finish, completing the first lap in 1:04.8 and maintaining a consistent pace throughout. Her final lap was covered in 1:07, culminating in a dominant 12-second victory over the second-place finisher.
This mile record adds to Hedengren’s impressive list of achievements in 2025. In April, she became the first U.S. high school girl to run a sub-15-minute 5,000 meters, finishing in 14:57.93 at the Bryan Clay Invitational. She also set a new high school two-mile record of 9:34.12 at the Arcadia Invitational.
Looking ahead, Hedengren plans to compete in the two-mile at the Brooks PR Invitational in Seattle and the 3,000 meters at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in Eugene, Oregon, later this summer.
