FSU Linebacker Justin Cryer Discusses Return from Season-Ending Injury, New Scheme

Florida State linebacker Justin Cryer is back on the field after a season-ending injury last year, and the redshirt junior is eager to make his mark in the Seminoles’ defense. Cryer, who was poised for a breakout season before his injury, has spent the offseason rehabbing and preparing for a fresh start under the guidance of FSU’s new defensive scheme. Now fully recovered, he’s ready to contribute to a defense that is making significant strides as it builds for the 2025 season.

Cryer’s injury last year was a devastating blow to both him and the FSU defense. After showing great promise during his early years at Florida State, his season was cut short, and he was forced to watch from the sidelines as his teammates fought through the season. However, Cryer remained committed to his recovery, working relentlessly to get back to full strength. “It was a tough year mentally, but I stayed focused on getting back,” Cryer said. “The coaches and trainers were great in helping me recover. Now, I feel stronger and more prepared than ever.”

Coming back from the injury, Cryer is adjusting to a new defensive system under defensive coordinator Adam Fuller. The new scheme is expected to be more aggressive, with a focus on creating pressure and disrupting opposing offenses. Cryer is excited about the changes and how they align with his strengths as a linebacker. “The new scheme fits me well,” he explained. “It allows me to use my speed and playmaking ability to make more plays on the ball. There’s a lot of movement, and I’m looking forward to being more involved in different aspects of the defense.”

As the season progresses, Cryer’s role will be crucial for Florida State’s defense. His ability to cover ground, defend against the run, and create chaos for opposing quarterbacks will be vital to the success of the unit. His leadership and experience, especially in a linebacker corps that is expected to be one of the team’s strengths, will be invaluable.

With Cryer fully healthy and a new defensive system in place, Florida State’s defense is poised for a big year. His return provides the Seminoles with a key piece to what could be a dominant defensive unit in 2025.
