FSU Announces Luke Loucks as the New Head Coach for Men’s Basketball
Florida State University (FSU) has officially named Luke Loucks as the next head coach of its men’s basketball program. Loucks, a former Seminoles player and long-time member of the coaching staff, has been appointed to succeed Leonard Hamilton, who stepped down after a distinguished 21-year tenure. Loucks’ promotion marks a new era in FSU basketball, as the university looks to build on its legacy of success and continue competing at the highest level.
Loucks, a 6’4” guard from Clearwater, Florida, played for FSU from 2008 to 2012 under Coach Hamilton. During his time as a player, Loucks made a significant impact on the court, helping lead the Seminoles to the 2012 ACC Tournament title and an NCAA Tournament appearance. His ability to run the offense and his leadership on and off the court earned him the admiration of his teammates and coaching staff. After his playing career, Loucks transitioned into coaching, first serving as an assistant coach at FSU and later as an associate head coach.
In his time on the coaching staff, Loucks was instrumental in helping the Seminoles maintain their competitive edge in the ACC and on the national stage. Under his guidance, FSU developed a reputation for hard-nosed defense, versatile offensive schemes, and strong team chemistry. His deep understanding of the game, combined with his familiarity with FSU’s culture, made him a natural choice for the head coaching position.
In a statement released by FSU, Athletic Director Michael Alford praised Loucks for his dedication to the program and his potential to lead the team into the future. “Luke Loucks has been an integral part of our basketball program for many years,” Alford said. “His passion for Florida State, his knowledge of the game, and his leadership abilities make him the perfect fit to lead our program. We believe Luke will continue to build upon the foundation that Coach Hamilton established and take FSU basketball to even greater heights.”
Loucks also shared his excitement about the opportunity to lead his alma mater. “It’s an honor and a privilege to be named the head coach of Florida State University’s men’s basketball program,” Loucks said. “I’ve had the privilege of being part of this incredible program for many years, and I’m excited to continue the work of Coach Hamilton. Our goal is to build a championship-level program, one that reflects the values of Florida State University and the hardworking, passionate community that supports us.”
Loucks’ promotion comes at a time of transition for the Seminoles, who are looking to rebound from a challenging season. However, his deep ties to FSU, both as a former player and coach, are expected to provide the continuity and stability the program needs. His experience with recruiting, player development, and game strategy will be critical as the team works to remain competitive in the highly demanding ACC.
As FSU moves forward with Loucks at the helm, expectations are high. The Seminoles have consistently been one of the top programs in the ACC and have made multiple NCAA Tournament appearances in recent years. Loucks’ familiarity with the program, combined with his passion and commitment, gives FSU fans reason to be optimistic about the future of the team.
With Loucks now in charge, the Seminoles are poised for an exciting new chapter in their storied basketball history.
