Kur Teng
Four-star shooting guard Kur Teng has officially committed to Michigan State Spartans, a key addition for Coach Tom Izzo and his program. The 6-foot-4, 185-190 lb guard out of Bradford Christian Academy (Massachusetts) was a coveted prospect in the class of 2024, ranked as high as No. 52 nationally per ESPN.
Two key reasons for the commitment
1. Fit of playing style
Teng has spoken about how Michigan State’s offensive system aligns with his own strengths. “I like to come off pin-downs on the offensive end,” he said, noting that each time he watched the Spartans his style mirrored what they were doing. He shone in elite summer circuit play, averaging over 14 points and shooting roughly 37.5 % from three in the Adidas 3SSB 17U circuit. That shooting ability and off-ball movement made him a natural fit for MSU’s guard-heavy rotation and helps explain why he chose them over other finalists such as Rutgers Scarlet Knights and Providence Friars.
2. Opportunity for immediate growth and impact
Teng will join a program that values guard play and has a track record of developing players in high-stakes conference competition. The Spartans, coming off a strong 2024-25 campaign in the Big Ten, provide a platform for him to elevate his game. Moreover, Michigan State’s evaluation of him was very high: one preview labelled him “probably the best pure shooter on our team.” For Teng, this means stepping into a situation where his strengths are not just welcomed but will be leveraged.
In short, Kur Teng’s commitment to Michigan State marries a shooting guard whose skill set and ambitions align perfectly with a well-established program ready to give him the stage. With his sharpshooting and movement off the ball, he looks positioned to become an important piece of the Spartans’ next chapter.
