Former Oregon State RB Jamious Griffin Transfers to BYU, Adds Explosive Depth to Backfield
In a significant offseason pickup, BYU Football has landed former Oregon State running back Jamious Griffin through the transfer portal. Griffin, a 5-foot-10, 210-pound senior, brings a combination of power and speed that could immediately boost BYU’s rushing attack as they gear up for their second full season in the Big 12.
Griffin arrives in Provo with proven experience. He began his college career at Georgia Tech before transferring to Oregon State, where he contributed as a reliable change-of-pace back over the past two seasons. In 2023, he rushed for 412 yards on 83 carries, averaging nearly 5 yards per touch while also scoring four touchdowns. Known for his compact build and ability to break tackles, Griffin adds another dimension to an already talented BYU backfield.
“I’ve been through a lot of growth the past few years, and this is the right time for a fresh start,” Griffin said in a statement. “BYU offers a great opportunity — both on the field and off. I’m ready to compete and help bring some electricity to the offense.”
Griffin’s decision to commit to BYU came after interest from several Power Five programs, including NC State and Cal. His versatility as a runner and pass-catcher makes him an ideal fit for offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick’s system, which values adaptability and quick decision-making from its skill players.
The addition of Griffin is especially timely, as BYU looks to solidify its running back rotation following the graduation of leading rusher Aidan Robbins. With Griffin now in the mix alongside returning backs LJ Martin and Miles Davis, the Cougars are poised to feature a more balanced and explosive offensive attack.
Griffin is already enrolled and expected to participate in summer workouts ahead of fall camp.
