After the Ohio State football team national championship win, a few players who had previously declared for the transfer portal are now selecting their new schools. Among those moving to other programs are Mitchell Melton (Virginia), George Fitzpatrick (Kansas State), Calvin Simpson-Hunt (Baylor), and Devin Brown (Cal).
One more Buckeye, tight end Patrick Gurd, who has only two career receptions, is transferring to Cincinnati. Although he has had limited chances to catch passes, Gurd blocking abilities allowed him to see significant playing time. However, with Max Klare joining Ohio State roster, Gurd would have faced limited opportunities next season.
At Cincinnati, Gurd is hopeful for more chances to make plays in the passing game. While Ohio State will miss his blocking, they can easily replace his role. Gurd, on the other hand, will have the chance to become a more prominent offensive player with the Bearcats.
Ohio State coaching staff may also see changes, with both coordinators possibly leaving. As the Spring transfer portal opens, more players are expected to enter, and the Buckeyes will look to address their team needs.
